According to some legends, Merlin and Nimue (the lady of the lake) were lovers when Merlin was young. This was painted for an art show.

Really? I thought Nimue was the Lady of the Lake's handmaiden. I'm pretty sure the Lady of the Lake died... but who knows. It's been a year since I read L'Morte De Artur. ^^;

Btw, thats a beautiful painting. The colours are amazing.

There are several different legends. Some say she was the lady of the lake, some she wasn't. heh. I just like the name. :P

Omg, a young and good-looking Merlin! Gives me story ideas, darn you ;) The colours are so lovely. Merlin's face is enchanting. No pun intended.

Ninmue isn't the lady of the lake's handmaiden, she IS the lady of the lake. The names given to the lady of the lake in the various legends are (some of them) Nimue, Viviane, Niniane, and Nyneve.

Nimue IS Merlin's lover in *most* legends, I'd say...stories say that she's the one who seals him in the tree/under the stone/in the tower...though I believe she's called 'Vivienne' in some of those legends.

I have a Nimue icon on livejournal but I rarely sign in when I comment so it's always my default icon. Pooh!
